Building a Better Bay Area: How Philanthropy Shapes Construction’s Positive Impact

Philanthropy in construction is a meaningful way for construction companies to give back to the community. As a general contractor local to the San Francisco Bay Area, Gidel & Kocal Construction is extremely grateful to our community for the devotion and support businesses in our vicinity have shown us. Community engagement in construction is a way for companies like ours to express our appreciation for the businesses and organizations that have supported us. Through a combination of construction services and fiscal donations, we use our resources to benefit the community and nonprofit organizations. Our philanthropic construction projects and ongoing initiatives speak to our commitment to furthering the social, economic, and environmental greater good.

Community Engagement

Gidel & Kocal Construction is a proud sponsor of several nonprofit organizations in our community. Our associations with the Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley and the East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC) are just two examples of how we give back.

Building a Better Bay Area: How Philanthropy Shapes Construction's Positive Impact

The Boys & Girls Club’s mission is to inspire and empower all young people, especially those in compromising situations. With a goal of promoting safe, positive, and inclusive environments for all, Boys & Girls Clubs of America support all youth and teens in reaching their full potential. Gidel & Kocal Construction recognizes that the youth are our future and firmly believe in the power of elevating all individuals to help them excel. As such, we are fully dedicated to the success of the Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley.

The East Oakland Youth Development Center (EOYDC) is another organization that is near and dear to our heart. The EOYDC’s mission is to develop the social and leadership capacities of youth and young adults ages 5-24 as they progress through their education, careers, and give service back to their communities. This organization helps individuals master technical and social skills while promoting civic engagement in youth from high-risk environments.

Our connections with these organizations, as well as many others supporting their annual events, fundraisers, and holiday donation drives, are evidence of the difference just one company can make. Building up the community can be quite literal in the sense of commercial construction projects, but it can also be in the form of engagement.

Educational Initiatives

To have a positive impact on the community, you also have to invest in its future. Our educational initiative programs provide ongoing support for construction workers in the form of education and training. We are proud participants of Construction Inclusion Week, a multi-day collective of general contractors, specialty contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers. This 501(C)(6) organization’s mission is to build awareness of the need for diversity and inclusion in the construction industry. It does this by providing content and resources that help attract, retain, and develop the best talent in the industry.

Why it Matters

Community engagement in construction is an ongoing effort that requires the involvement of companies like ours. Building a better Bay Area starts with businesses that already have a foundation within it. Gidel & Kocal Construction is proud to have been a staple in the Bay Area construction industry for over 40 years. We recognize the value of aligning ourselves with worthy causes, which is why we commit time, energy, and effort towards boosting them up. It’s only through collaboration and teamwork that we can all succeed.
