CPR/First Aid Certified

John joined Gidel & Kocal Construction in 1989 as a carpenter and quickly advanced to become our first site superintendent, eventually earning the role of project manager.

As a project manager, John draws on his extensive experience to bid projects with precision and attention to detail. He actively coordinates with clients to ensure their needs are met, managing submittals and change orders directly with them. John is known for his hands-on approach, often found on-site supervising field staff to ensure projects stay on schedule. He meticulously oversees the closeout process, ensuring all details are addressed and that we exceed client expectations. His expertise spans a variety of specialized projects, including ground-up construction, complex renovations, seismic retrofits, market-ready projects, and tenant improvements.

John finds great motivation in the entire construction process, from estimating to overseeing the build, and values the interactions he has with clients, architects, and subcontractors. He prioritizes transparency in client relations, making sure they are informed about potential issues that may arise beyond the plans to avoid surprises in costs. He makes it a point to connect with clients weekly, providing updates on progress, and visits each site regularly to collaborate with the site superintendent.

Outside of work, John enjoys mountain biking, paddleboarding, and kayaking, and going to music in the park all around the Bay Area.
